The Ministry of Natural Resources has extended a Flood Warning for the Lake Temagami area and along the shoreline of Lake Nipissing.
What this means:
- Water levels are high and flooding is already happening in some areas.
- Additional flooding is still possible, especially if weather conditions change.
- Shorelines, riverbanks, and low-lying areas are at risk.
What residents should do:
- Stay alert and keep a close watch on local conditions.
- Keep children and pets away from the water and supervise them at all times.
- Be careful near shorelines—they may be slippery and unstable.
- If you live in a low-lying or flood-prone area, prepare for possible flooding.
- Watch for updates from Environment Canada and local authorities.
Water conditions:
- Water levels remain above normal and are slowly decreasing, but still high.
- Wind can push water onto shore, increasing the risk of flooding.
- Debris such as logs and docks may be floating in the water.
Boating and recreation:
- Use extreme caution when boating, kayaking, or using personal watercraft.
- Stay away from dams, fast-moving water, and floating debris.
- Avoid creating large waves near shorelines, which could cause damage.
Important reminder: Even though little rain is currently forecast, conditions can change quickly. High water levels mean the area remains vulnerable.
Definitions:
- Flood Warning: Flooding is happening or expected very soon.
- Flood Watch: Flooding could happen.
