What Callander Has To Offer

Only four hours from Toronto, in a spectacular natural setting, the Callander area offers the benefits of a beautiful resort community with the world's best sunsets. We are just a short drive away from Hunstville and North Bay in the heart of Blue Sky Region.

We have an unusual and interesting past and today we offer visitors four seasons of fun and a future that couldn't be brighter.


Events

  1. Country Roads Artisan Studio Tour - a self guided tour that features our thriving artists community in a rural setting.
  2. Funfest - a weekend full of family fun and entertainment, dances, breakfasts and a parade to celebrate Canada Day.
  3. Books By The Bay - the library brings together a variety of Canadian talent with the goal of encouraging reading in the home.

Discover the Magic of Stepping off the Beaten Path. The Country Roads of our region connect a community of workshops, studios and rural enterprises. Shop for unusual gifts and you will find a cheery greeting from artisans eager to share their knowledge and enthusiasm. Books by the Bay Festival presents a Northern Festival to Celebrate Canadian Authors. In 2008 the Festival included: authors, illustrators, children's literature, readings, book signing and a book table. Planning has already started to expand what will be offered for the 2009 Festival, which is scheduled for July 17 - 19. Services

About 250 children attend pre-kindergarten to grade eight at M.T. Davidson Public School. Others are bussed a short distance to neighbouring communities to attend Separate, French Immersion or Secondary Schools.

On weekends, five churches offer services and fellowship. For your medical needs, our community boasts a pharmacy, doctors, a chiropractor and two dentists.

Most banking requirements can be attended to at the Royal Bank or the Callander Community Credit Union, both are centrally located on Main Street.


Parks & Facilities

The Callander Public Library offers over 11,000 books, inter-library loans, free Internet access for visitors and residents as well as an enthusiastic book club.

Tennis courts, superb public beaches, ball fields, a skateboard park and lakeside parks are available as is our spacious Community Centre. In the winter we are able to supply the community with two outdoor rinks, snowmobile trails, and much more.


Clubs

We are proud of the many clubs and organizations that assist the people of our community including the Royal Canadian Legion - Branch 445, Callander Lion's Club, Callander Horticultural Society, Girl Guides of Canada and Scouts Canada, Callander Minor Ball Association, Over 55 Club, Lake Nipissing South Shore Association as well as many others.


Special Features

Nestled along the south-eastern shores of Lake Nipissing, Callander boasts sandy beaches, several marinas and a yacht club. The lively sport fishing brings back generations of families who spend their vacations within Callander and along the South Shore. You'll also find great golf, fine dining, a number of well known artists and artisans and a huge wildlife marsh teeming with adventure for the nature enthusiast.

The Callander Bay Heritage Museum is located in the former home of Dr. Allan Roy Dafoe, doctor of the Dionne Quintuplets, who were born nearby. The museum contains one of the world's largest collections of Dionne Quint memorabilia.

In winter, Callander takes on a new feel with its terrific ice fishing, beautiful OFSA snowmobile trails and cross country skiing. When the temperature dips, the sky gets bluer and the hospitality just gets warmer. Once you visit you may never want to leave.

The water, landscape and wildlife of Callander provides inspiration to a number of fine artisans who call this area home. They are happy to welcome visitors to their studios.
