Colouring Contest Winners - 2009

2009 Colouring Contest Winners & Council grade4winner.jpg gradeunknownwinner.jpg allwinners2.jpg

Every year the Municipality of Callander invites the local elementary students (grades one through eight) to participate in a colouring contest. The only restrictions on the young artists is that the topic of their submissions must be Four Seasons of Reasons. One piece of artwork is then selected from each grade and that student is recognized during a Council Meeting. The winning pictures are then hung in the Municipal office for one year.

March Break Programming - 2009

Sidewalk Chalk Artists All Smiles Focused We Are Number 1

During 2009 the Municipality of Callander offered March Break Programming for its residents. Through the dedication of our Recreation and Events Coordinator and the Canadore Recreation and Leisure students the program was a great success. With between 22 and 24 children in attendance at all four days of events it was rather busy. Children aged 6 to 11 arrived at noon and spent 2 hours each day playing games and participating in exercises. We can't wait to see you all again next year.

Callander Lights Up Christmas - 2008

Committee Members Visitors from Past Walks Lighting the Way Elf Leaders

The Municipality of Callander is proud to offer this annual event put on by the Recreation Committee. For the 2008 event Council Members, Committee Volunteers, Staff and Callander residents all braved the chilling temperatures (-34 with the wind chill) to participate in the walk. The group met in the parking lot of M.T. Davidson Elementary school to start their walk to Centennial Park. Canadore's Recreation and Leisure Students lead the caroling that continued throughout the walk. Upon reaching the park the number of participants swelled to close to 70 for the actual tree lighting ceremony. After the Mayor lit Callander's Christmas Tree (and a number of other trees in the area) hot chocolate, apple cider and cookies were served. We hope to see you out next year for this great occasion.

Safe Halloween - 2008

Headless Halloween Baby Monkey Baby Owl Halloween Decorations

This event is hosted by the Recreation Committee, and supported by the Municipality; it supplies a safe venue for children under 12 to celebrate Halloween. With the help of Canadore's Recreation and Leisure students and Callander's Volunteer Fire Fighters the committee is able to offer a haunted house, games and treat bags for all of the children. This year there were close to 300 children that participated, a significant increase from the 200 participants last year. We can't wait to see all the great costumes next year.
