Why do I Need a Permit?
A building permit is required to protect you and your community's health, safety and well being. The process associated with acquiring a permit requires the comparison of the plans and details of projects against the requirements of the Ontario Building Code and pertinent laws, completed by an independent party from the Building Department. Once the plans are appoved the Chief Building Official will inspect the project during several stages of the project. This process is meant to guarantee the safety of public, labourers and those who will occupy / use the structure. These inspections have the added benefit of preventing future issues by ensuring that all buildings and structures comply with the applicable Municipal Zoning By-laws.
