Library Internet Acceptable Use Policy

Revised and Adopted April 13, 2011

  1. Minimum age for unsupervised use of the Internet is 13. A parent or guardian must accompany any children under the age of 13.
  2. All patrons must sign the Acceptable Use agreement for the Callander Public Library. In addition, patrons under the age of 18 must have the form signed by a parent or guardian.
  3. Patrons must sign the booking/agreement sheet each time, signing in.
  4. The Internet is a worldwide, unregulated source of information and users must assess the accuracy of the information for themselves. The Library Board and staff have no control over information on the Internet and cannot be responsible for its content. The Callander Public Library neither censors access to materials nor protects users from information they may find offensive.
  5. User may reserve computer time prior to use.
  6. It is unacceptable to send, receive or display text or graphics that may reasonably be construed at obscene, threatening, harassing, or abusive.
  7. User may reserve one hour of computer time in a 24-hour period.
  8. User may use the computer in one-hour increments unless otherwise reserved or requested.
  9. No more than two persons may use a computer at one time.
  10. Walk-ins are welcome; however, reservations will be honored over walk-ins.
  11. Due to Library staff scheduling, Internet-trained staff may not always be available.
  12. Chat lines are forbidden on Library computers.
  13. CD ROMS for encyclopedias will be stored at the circulation desk and can be checked out for use in the library only.
  14. Due to chances of a virus being downloaded, users must allow library staff to scan your personal storage devices (CDs, USB drives etc.) for viruses prior to use on library computers if requested.
  15. The Callander Public Library is not responsible for damage to a patron's CD, USB or computer, or for any loss of data, damage or liability that may occur from the patron's use of the Library's computer.
  16. Computer printouts are $0.25 per sheet for black & white and $1.00 per page for full colour.
  17. Persons using library equipment agree not to make changes to the setup or configuration or the software and hardware.
